La Zenia vs Punta Prima: What's the Difference?
Two of Orihuela Costa's best-known names — closer on a map than they are on foot.
La Zenia and Punta Prima are almost always mentioned in the same breath, which gives the impression they're right next door to each other. In practice they're both on the Orihuela Costa side of the Torrevieja border, but they are not immediate neighbours: it's roughly 3–4 km by road between them, so most people drive or take a bus rather than walk. Punta Prima sits on the headland at the northern end, closest to the Torrevieja border.
The beaches
La Zenia's beach is Cala Bosque, a cove-style beach commonly listed at around 258 m x 105 m, with beach bars, restaurants and a promenade running along it. Punta Prima's beach is more semi-urban in feel and smaller, commonly listed at around 234 m x 28 m. Both have held a Blue Flag in recent years, though exact sizes vary slightly depending on the source, so it's worth judging by eye rather than relying on a single figure.
La Zenia Boulevard is a separate thing entirely
One common point of confusion: La Zenia Boulevard, one of the region's largest shopping and leisure centres, is not on the seafront — it's inland, roughly a five-minute drive from La Zenia's beach itself. It's a useful landmark for orientation, but it doesn't tell you anything about what the beachfront area is actually like day to day.
How to tell them apart in practice
Evening atmosphere, summer noise levels, parking availability and winter opening hours differ between the two and are best judged on a weekday evening in low season, rather than from listing photos or a single summer visit. Both areas have their own loyal following — the difference tends to come down to how you'd actually spend your evenings, not which one is objectively nicer.
Frequently asked questions
Are La Zenia and Punta Prima within walking distance of each other?
Not comfortably — they're roughly 3–4 km apart by road, so most people drive or take a bus between them rather than walk, even though both are commonly grouped together as part of Orihuela Costa.
Is La Zenia Boulevard shopping centre on the beach?
No. It's inland, about a five-minute drive from La Zenia's own beach (Cala Bosque). It's a well-known landmark for orientation, but it's a separate location from the seafront itself.
Beach measurements and descriptions vary slightly by source — treat the figures above as general orientation and judge the areas in person before deciding.
